Having completed the six-story outpatient cancer center in White Plains and a 25,000 SF licensed imaging and general practice facility in New Rochelle, White Plains Hospital asked Posen to undertake the programming, design and construction of a 75,000 sf multi-specialty outpatient center in the iconic Lord & Taylor retail building in Scarsdale, NY.
A dozen blocking concepts were developed prior to approval of the selected option The project, now complete, has one main entrance and four secondary entrances allowing physicians, staff, patients, and visitors the ease of parking nearest the department they need to reach. Highly advanced electronic check-in procedures compliment the large reception and waiting area – the goal being to minimize waiting time and maximize convenience. Internal circulation consists of a main north/south corridor and three minor east/west connectors to the entrances. Staffed by greeters, patients are directed to their departmental destination.
The elegant and welcoming interior character is achieved through the use of a natural palette of materials including tile and wood ceilings and accents. Entrance points are punctuated with a custom designed, hanging light fixture at each reception desk. These sculptural elements are focal points that lend a sense of beauty and continuity throughout the facility.
