Posen Architects transformed an outdated 12-bed unit at Saint Clare’s Denville Hospital Critical Care Unit (CCU) by introducing natural materials and more daylight and by improving the staff area layout. Pastel headwalls and tired finishes were replaced with glass wall fronts, sliding doors, light wood-like flooring, new millwork, and ceilings that provide multiple lighting options and improved acoustics. Reconfiguration of the central nursing station improved sight lines and access and introduced abundant natural light in work areas. The project was accomplished with limited utility changes under stringent regulatory requirements. The result of this budget-friendly project is a more comforting healing space for patients and their families and an improved staff experience. Posen Architects received a Remodel/Renovation Silver Award from Healthcare Design for this project.
