Built in 1932, the Methodist Church of the Village in Manhattan required extensive renovations to provide handicapped accessibility, modern meeting rooms and new washroom facilities for congregants and community groups. To address the access challenges, Posen Architects designed a new side entrance lobby with a new elevator—hidden from the landmark façade—servicing five levels and making the building fully ADA-compliant. The basement modernization included a NYC Health Department-permitted commercial kitchen and conversion of a stage area into a multi-purpose/conference room. Additional offices were designed for a new floor constructed above the former stage.
