Spring 2021 Quarterly Update
As vaccines roll out across the country, I speak for everyone at the firm that, while the Covid-19 pandemic presented its share of challenges, it also provided us with an opportunity to pull together and rise to the occasion. We are a close-knit office and the social distancing requirements made us realize just how much we really enjoy working side-by-side. We all learned new technologies that kept us connected and productive. In January, we all returned to work in the office on a hybrid schedule – 3 days in the office and two days working remotely. This supports social distancing requirements while also allowing us to see our co-workers and maintain a level of spontaneity so important in a creative environment. We are monitoring what is happening with ‘back to work’ in our industry, and in the marketplace in general, and will adjust our protocols and work rules as we deem appropriate.
I am pleased to say that as what everyone is calling the “new normal” takes shape, the firm continues to grow and win new work:
- As a distinct building type, separate from acute care, behavioral health/community facilities, (substance abuse and rehabilitation centers) are important typologies for us. We are working on what we believe is the first modular, mixed use building funded by the State of New York, Office of Addiction Services and Supports. Once completed, we think this method of project construction will totally change how we conceive of public building design across all building types.
- Our first school for the NYC School Construction Authority is finishing this spring and will start seeing students this fall. We are working with two private schools on expansion plans and have several assignments for New Jersey community colleges and universities.
- Healthcare, our largest and most diverse market sector, includes many licensed and unlicensed projects for existing and new clients as well. Imaging equipment upgrades, pediatric outpatient facilities, new infusion centers, long term care renovations, new medical offices for private practices – to say the least, we are busy!
2021 is the 25th anniversary
of Posen Architects.
I remember opening our first office in a renovated service station that had a leaky roof and very little insulation. We had a small space and big dreams and never expected to buy and renovate our own building in just ten years. We have been in our current building since 2007 and have grown to 20 employees. I’d like to thank the Principals – Lori, Kosta and Tom – and the dedicated, creative, and hardworking Posen employees for their contributions to this important milestone. But perhaps most importantly, I’d like to thank our clients for making the past 25 years so much fun and rewarding – we truly enjoy helping you achieve your goals.
